Truth in advertising!

Okay, so I keep seeing commercials for Nutella, this hazelnut spread that they say is nutritious and tastes good too. A couple of days ago, I'm at the grocery store and while I'm picking up peanut butter for the kids, I get a glimpse of said nutritious, yet tasty spread, so I put it in my basket.

Later, I get home and I'm unloading groceries, preparing dinner, all of those things and decide to have a look see....I open the jar, I notice the tantalizing aroma, I say to myself..."smells chocolaty!" I get a spoon, I take a bite.....HOLY SHITAKE MUSHROOMS! This is not a nutritious hazelnut spread, this is chocolate CRACK!! Two tablespoons=200 calories 100 of which come from fat, OMG! Today I had to throw it away, in the outside can, way down under other garbage so I wouldn't be tempted to dig through the trash for the chocolaty deliciousness. In the immortal words of Nancy Kerrigan....WHY? WHY? WHY?
I hope to someday get over this brief, but poignant brush with ecstasy!
Happy Tuesday!
Hugs,
T

Hey T. I'm not sure if you know, but I sell Gourmet Food and Chocolates for a living and Nutella is one of those especially yummy bits of crack. You definitely picked a doozy there. I read a link on it that talks about exactly what you did: http://www.obesitypanacea.com/2009/04/nutella-delicious-yes-nutritious.html

Good Luck getting over the craving!

Oh, my kids have eaten this stuff since they were little! It is like crack and I love it! Sorry you had to throw it away, but I understand because I have become very picky about how many calories I want to eat. Nancy Kerrigan.....now, that's funny!

LMAO!!! Thanks for the warning. Crack is Whack!

I have a jar in my pantry, as yet unopened. I think it will have to remain unopened for a while. Thanks for the warning.

OMG I hate those commercials. How dare they peddle crack to chubby chicks all over the world?!

I almost bought some the other day...nearly had to chop my hand off to resist.

I love me some Nutella!!! I hide it in the back of a shelf and when I find it I have to restrain myself to have just a spoonful!!

Yeah, that stuff is freaking yummy lol

Ooooh, Nutella is my kryptonite. I wanted to get some to blend into my shakes, but I knew I wouldn't be able to stay away. Good for you for getting rid of it, though. I don't know if I would have been able to do it!

Luckily that is just something that doesn't appeal to me!

Awww, the crack of my childhood! My mother used to make fried Nutella ravioli's covered in powdered sugar! You wonder why I'm fat? Very rarely do I buy it but when I do....all my childhood memories come rushing back. It was a staple in our house!

Wait...you're saying that advertising is LYING to me??

I think Nutella is gross. I don't want chocolate on toast, thank you very much. My kids like it though. I look at the nutricional information in comparrison with peanut butter. It has about the same amount of fat and calories and a bit less protein.

The best defense was the trash can. I'm proud of you.

Nutella is an ITALIAN form of CRACK! We just use a spoon now!

It's even better on a hot crepe with strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Sigh. Haven't had that in years. Probably for the best. Congrats on throwing it away - I'm not sure I would have been as strong.

I can remember the exact meal at which I had my first taste of nutella. I was visiting a friend in Germany 21 years ago, and her mom served it for breakfast with cheese and bread. I have never been the same since.

It's unbelievable with pretzels. I cannot have it in my house. That is all.

Nutella is WORSE than crack... and my kids love it. You have no idea how many jars we go through because sometimes I just HAVE to throw it away. Oh and it is amazing on crepes with raspberry spread and a teeny bit of real whipped cream. And with pretzels. And with a spoon (or a finger... shhhh...).

Never tried it and now I never will.

I am glad that I never tried it... Chocolate Crack. I hope your forbidden warning doesn't make me like Eve and the apple tree... *Maria*-Blogger from "This one time at Band Camp..." Check out my blog at mybigfatbandgeeklife.blogspot.com

OMG...my hubby loves this stuff. I had never looked at the label before. Giada on the Food Channel uses it constantly and of course he has a crush on her.
He will definitely not be happy this evening.

Ok I cracked up when I read this post. I have seen the commercials for this product but have never bought any. So glad I didn't.

in the commercial they say a healthy snack for the kids as they slather it on a slice of bread... advertising is very misleading :-)

I love Nutella but can't have it in the house. It's amazing with tea biscuits.Good for you for tossing the rest.

I've always wanted to try this - and now I won't. Thank you for saving me from at least a 5 lb gain.

Nutella is evil and resides firmly on the list of things I cannot bring into my house!!!

Every time Giada makes those nutella filled deep fried ravioli things, I have to turn off the channel and I don't even LIKE deep fried stuff all that much!
